Over Labor Day week end, two of our guests, Jeff and Paula Sulla went on a sunset sail with Capt. Johnny of Mobjack sailing, (www.mobjacksailing.com), on his beautiful boat Xanadu. They got to see several pretty sights from the water, as well as a beautiful sunset and full moon. Johnny had plenty of yummy snacks for them, some of which they brought back and shared with us. Mobjack Sailing offers day and sunset cruises around the County, as well as sailing instruction. Let us know if we can arrange a sail for you! Jeff and Paula sent us some great pictures:

We had a full house and a wonderful group of people! After wine and cheese on Saturday, someone suggested we get a group picture, so we did! Later that night the festivities continued as some guests retired to the library to watch the Va. Tech football game, and others hung out on the back porch playing and listening to guitar. Thanks to all for such a fun and interesting week end.

We actually did not change too much in this room…well, unless you count the brand new private bathroom! All of the showers in the 3 new bathrooms in the old Billups house were hand tiled by US! Very pleased with them now, but cursing the late nights and time consuming process at the time. The buttercream paint and blue flower detail made this room light and airy, and it was the only bedroom that we did not completely repaint.

We had a great couple visit several weeks ago…Brianna and Jason Roane. They are making a go of their dreams and have opened up a studio that offers yoga instruction and art classes in Richmond, VA. Brianna showed off some of her yoga moves for us, and we are trying to get together a yoga retreat here at the Inn next spring. Shoot us an email if you are interested! Jason is also an accomplished and thought provoking artist. Check out their website at www.likewaterva.com Just another great couple that we have been fortunate enough to meet during our innkeeping adventure!

One of our most popular attractions has turned out to be our weekly Wine and Cheese get together every Saturday evening @5:00. This has provided a great opportunity for the guests, (plus ourselves), to all get to know each other. Many laughs and great conversations have arisen out of this time each week, and it has been interesting to see all of the “spontaneous” get together have spawned on the back deck with a few drinks shared by guests. The Saturday event often features a fresh caught crab appetizer when in season, and we even have been known to roast some oysters on occasion! Hope you can join us soon…

We have had some guests come and bring their boat up to fish in the East River and Mobjack Bay, (not far from our creek), but several guests have caught fish right off our dock. Mostly Croaker, but nice size Croaker sure are tasty…If one has the stomach to clean them.

This room used to be a bright pink! We decided that the view was so beautiful from this room, that we wanted the paint to reflect the nature outside. Oh, and of course we added a whole new bathroom…no more sharing! Here is what it looked like before:

Birthday Girl gets a cake!
We had a big party for Greg’s step mother Cathy Dusenberry Late July. She has done so much for us, (along with Greg’s dad Reid), from designing and sewing the bed covers and window treatments, to painting the sign for the entrance to our Inn. For the bash we had 3 couples that are good friends of Cathy and Reid, along with Greg’s sisters and brother. A great time was had by all…we even had a pinata! The columns on the porch took a few dings, but the little pony finally managed to crack, and we are still finding the occasional piece of candy in the yard…

The newly remodeled West Billups Room. It took a bit of paint, (no VOC of course!), and a whole new structure for the bathroom, but we finished. This room ended up being one of the largest and most spacious, with a king size bed.

Way behind on befores and afters, so we will be updating for every room! This is the West Billups room, part of the old house. Not sure what it was called before, but it sure was interesting! Clem, (Lori’s Dad), was especially eager to paint over this one! As we showed in an earlier post, this room got a whole new structure- the bathroom. It was the only way to get a private bath in this room, but we were very happy with the outcome. Here are some before pictures…
