Something we realised right away upon purchasing our new inn was that sound traveled from one room to the other in our suites without impediment. That’s not good! It turns out that mere plywood stood between the walls and we found that we could speak to each other through them without raising our voices. So what to do? The solution lies in sandwiching green glue between two layers of drywall.

Green glue is non toxic to both people and the environment. It acts as a viscoelastic damping mechanism when placed between two other rigid materials. It converts sound vibrations into heat, thus eliminating noise. Makes perfect sense doesn’t it? Well maybe not. The point is it works!

At our serene bed and breakfast, it is important to eliminate sound from one room to the other so that guests can enjoy the tranquil setting we strive to achieve. Below is a picture of the green glue being installed by Greg and his cousin Steve. It’s amazing how something so simple, so affordable, (compared to other soundproofing methods we researched), and so eco-friendly can work. And, it really is colored green!

One of the many things we love about our new inn is that it makes an ideal base for for a great vacation. A beautiful serene setting combined with easy drives to many wonderful locations. So here at the Inn At Tabbs Creek, we thought we would highlight some of the many historic sites and theme parks our guests may want to visit during their stay with us.

The Historic Triangle:

Colonial Williamsburg – Interact with people from the 18th century and see how they lived. The centerpiece of the Historic Triangle, Williamsburg is a must see!

Jamestown – The first permanent English settlement. Experience the life of the first settlers and Virginia’s first capital.

Yorktown Battlefield – Come see where George Washington defeated the English army and forced Cornwallis to surrender, dealing English hopes of retaining the American Colonies a crippling blow.

Hello! We are soon to be opening a bed and breakfast called The Inn at Tabb’s Creek, located in historic Mathews County Virginia (learn more about Mathews County here). We hope to be fully operational by the spring of 2009. Until then, we will be posting about the wonderful renovations we will be doing as well as highlighting some of the many sites to see and activities to do in and around Mathews.

Our B&B is located on beautiful, spacious waterfront property along Tabb’s Creek near the East River, which is an offshoot of the Chesapeake Bay. We offer access to kayaking, canoeing, fishing, sailing and birdwatching among many other activities. Conveniently located near historic Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, the Inn at Tabb’s Creek is less than 3 hours from Washington DC and less than an hour and a half from both Richmond and Norfolk Va.
